You can use Peppol in two ways: simply through a web inbox, or fully automated via integration with your accounting or ERP system. This article explains both paths so you can see which fits your business — from a sole trader to a group with dozens of entities.
Path 1: the Peppol Box web inbox — no integration
The fastest start. After registration you get the Peppol Box web inbox, where you send and receive e-invoices directly in the browser — no installation, no IT department and no change to your accounting software. For many sole traders and small companies this is a perfectly sufficient solution, and going live takes minutes.
Path 2: integration with your accounting / ERP system
If you issue a higher volume of invoices or want full automation, we connect Peppol directly to your system. We have two options:
- Standard connectors to common accounting and ERP systems.
- REST API and webhooks for custom, in-house or less common systems.
We map your invoice fields to Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 / UBL once — after that invoices flow automatically: you issue in your system, the document is validated, signed and sent through our certified Access Point, while incoming invoices arrive as structured data straight into your processing. No OCR, no manual retyping, no lost PDFs. For what such a structured document looks like, see Electronic invoicing explained.
Two ways to connect — DIY or done-for-you
Building the actual connection to our Access Point can go two ways. Pick based on whether you have in-house dev capacity:
- Self-service — your own development team integrates against our public REST API documentation. No integration fee, full control, your own pace.
- We do it for you — our development team builds the full integration end-to-end, from €990 excl. VAT per integration (one-off). After that you run on €2 / month + €0.03 per invoice over the limit.
Both paths end the same way — invoices flow automatically through our certified Access Point.
Validation, signatures and reporting — automatic
With every integration, the things you’d otherwise do by hand run in the background:
- validation against EN 16931 and the local profile before sending,
- digital signature where required,
- automatic tax reporting (C5 / TDD) to the Slovak Financial Administration,
- a 10-year archive of every document in the EU, audit-ready.
For accounting firms, e-shops and groups
The architecture assumes multiple entities: one account manages several companies and clients under a single login. That helps if you:
- run an accounting firm invoicing for dozens of clients,
- operate an e-shop with high invoice volume,
- are a holding or group with several entities (including cross-border in SK, CZ, DE, PL).
Each entity is registered with its own Peppol identifier and per-country rules are routed automatically. For high volumes and bulk onboarding we have a Custom plan — see the pricing.
How to start with integration
- Activate receiving — free, instant, via Peppol Box.
- Tell us about your system — which accounting/ERP software you run and what volume you invoice.
- We connect and test — connector or API, sandbox test, switch to production.
The REST API documentation is publicly available at peppol.verteco.digital/docs. Start by activating your free inbox and we’ll handle the integration together when you need it.
